VIGO DI FASSA AREA

Winter on the Catinaccio Rosengarten

Discover the kingdom of King Laurin

Treat yourself to a wonderful holiday in the Dolomites, enjoying incredible panoramic views every day of the Catinaccio, a true paradise for snow lovers. The Catinaccio Rosengarten ski area is the ideal destination for anyone looking to recharge their batteries and enjoy relaxing winter holidays or ski weeks, discovering spectacular landscapes designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site, as well as for sports enthusiasts seeking adventure.

In addition to the breathtaking view from Ciampedie (2,000 meters)—a natural panoramic balcony overlooking the Fassa Valley and the Dolomites—the Catinaccio ski area offers a rich variety of slopes and trails. These range from long blue runs for children and beginners to the legendary black slope dedicated to the champion Alberto Tomba, a loyal athlete who used to train in this area.

The Ski Area, which is part of the Dolomiti Superski circuit, can be easily reached from Vigo di Fassa thanks to a modern escalator that takes skiers from the village centre directly to the departure station of the Vigo-Catinaccio cable car. Alternatively, you can access it from Pera di Fassa using the Vajolet 1, Vajolet 2, and Pian Pecei chairlifts.

The area is specially equipped for families. There is a large Baby Park where children can be safely left with the Vigo Ski School, which organizes ski and snowboard courses and manages the Mini Club, ensuring they have fun and enjoy a great holiday surrounded by the Catinaccio Group.

For the little ones and anyone taking their first steps on skis, the ski area offers long, uncrowded blue slopes to practice on, all featuring breathtaking views of the Catinaccio Group. The Cigolade blue slope is highly popular; it starts from the Prà Martin scenic viewpoint and winds down through the woods for 1.5 km to Pian Pecei. Other pleasant options for beginners and those looking for a relaxed ski experience include the two return slopes, Vajolet 1 and Vajolet 2, as well as the Ciampedie-Pian Pecei run. There is also a blue slope located directly at Ciampedie at the ski school camp, just a few steps from the arrival station of the cable car.

Fun and challenging, the 4.5 km long Thoeni slope descends from Prà Martin all the way down to Vigo di Fassa. Gone are the days of exhausting, flat poling sections to reach it! Thanks to the new “Prà Martin-Thoeni” link, one of the most entertaining and varied slopes in the Val di Fassa has been created. It is a red run with a 700-meter vertical drop, featuring sweeping turns and thrilling changes of slope that all skiers will enjoy. The most daring can test their skills on the Alberto Tomba black slope, named after the champion who trained at Ciampedie for many years, bringing joy to his fans and all alpine skiing enthusiasts.

The true pleasure of a peaceful holiday in the Catinaccio area also lies in enjoying a relaxing break in a mountain hut, savouring traditional Ladin dishes alongside national and international cuisine. The ski area’s offer is completed by 6 mountain refuges, 5 of which can be reached on foot directly from the arrival of the Vigo-Catinaccio cable car: Baita Checco, Baita La Zondra, Baita Prà Martin, Rifugio Bellavista, Rifugio Ciampedie, and Rifugio Negritella. The latter also features panoramic rooms and a small, cozy wellness center, making it perfect for spending the night at high altitude.

For non-skiers or anyone looking for an alternative way to spend a day immersed in nature, Ciampedie also offers lovely winter hikes with snowshoes or crampons, depending on snow conditions. A unique chance to experience the winter mountains, regenerating body and mind in the wonderful snow-covered landscape of the Catinaccio Group. There are two high-altitude routes: the Ciampedie Plateau Loop—a simple circular trail suitable for families—and the Ciampedie-Gardeccia walk, with the chance to enjoy a meal at the refuges within the basin. Guided excursions with a local guide are also organized for an even more immersive experience to discover the alpine environment and the unique features of the area.
